Lake Murray State Park Lake Murray State Park is
located 7 miles south of Ardmore, Oklahoma. With 12,496 acres of park land,
Lake Murray is the largest state park in Oklahoma. Together with 6,500 acres of
crystal clear water, The eight campgrounds
provide electricity, water, sanitary dump stations, toilets, showers, and
boat ramps. Two of the eight campgrounds have full hookups and a third one
can be reserved. There are three group camps for organized groups or family
reunions. Each group camp can hold from 120 to 200 people. The park offers swimming,
skiing, scuba diving, golf, tennis, sailing, marina, hiking and motorcycle
trails, horseback riding, remote control flying, fun boats, miniature golf,
fishing, field trial grounds, and an airstrip. Tucker Tower Nature Center
on the south end of the park offers a beautiful view of the lake. There are 27 miles of scenic
highway around the lake allowing access to nearly all areas. Lake Murray is
abundant with wildlife including deer, rabbits, raccoons, and birds of many
kinds and colors. The park is a playground for
about 1.5 million visitors a year. There are three holidays during the park's
open season. The first is Memorial Day in May, drawing some 135,000 visitors.
The second is the Fourth of July (Independence Day), drawing some 90,000
visitors. In September there is Labor Day with about 60,000 visitors at the
park. The park is open from March 15th to November 15th. During the other
times of the year, there are three campgrounds open for camping. The
southern border of Lake Murray is adjacent to Hickory Creek public hunting
area with 8,000 acres of upland forest marsh and tall grass prairie. There is
also a public shooting site at Hickory Creek for Lake
Murray Lodge Resort. For
